Budding filmmakers have the chance to learn new skills in short digital video camera operation course next week from a professional with thirty five years experience in the industry.

Chris Weaver from Bromsgrove's broadcast television production company Free Spirit Film & TV will be directing the course based in the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Cannon Hill Park.

Chris has worked on BAFTA winning TV programmes, music videos, commercials and feature films with industry professionals such as Michael Caine, Oliver Reed, Michael Jackson and many more and has filmed on location all over the world.

Places are filling up for the two day course on the 26th and 27th February will teach the basic professional skills that Producers and Cinematographers look for when recruiting camera operators for the Film and TV industry.

Combining theory and one-to-one practical instruction, the course covers what is involved in the role of the camera assistant, film and video camera operating basics and information about how to establish yourself as a successful freelancer.

Chris commented: "Our course is one of a kind in the area as it is a way for me to pass on my experience, advice and knowledge about how to break into the top end of the film and TV industry.

"The course is all about the importance of having extremely high professional standards which will ultimately get you noticed in the top end of the industry.

"Becoming an established professional camera assistant is the first step to a career in the camera department on big budget, prestigious productions so learning the basic skills and what is required of that role is the essential first step.

"We are excited to meet some of Birmingham's up and coming media talent over the two day course and are sure that they will go away with a set of skills under their belt that will enable them to really progress in the film and TV industry.

Each student will be given a basic introduction to the film camera and instruction on camera operating techniques using a professional digital format, the Sony Digibeta Camera.

Chris started his career as a film cameraman working on high profile current affairs documentaries for the BBC and Independent Television such as Panorama, Horizon, QED and 40 Minutes.

Limited places are available on this course. For more information contact Chris Weaver at chrisweaver@freespiritfilm.co.uk or call 07860 306589.
